Musicamp 2010 21-28 August

at Peterhouse Girls School

The National Musicamp Association is pleased to announce that the 2010 camp will be held at Peterhouse Girls School from Saturday 21 August 2009 for a week, with a final public concert in Harare on Saturday 28 August.

Applications and enquiries are invited from all instrumental musicians aged thirteen or over (there is no upper age limit!) who have attained a level of grade 3 or higher in at least one instrument, can read music and would like to attend this year’s camp.

There will be a full orchestra, strings orchestra, windband, jazz band, choir, marimbas, numerous chamber groups and more. This is a great opportunity to develop and sharpen musical skills and to spend a week steeped in musical creativity, surrounded by like-minded musicians of all ages and from all backgrounds.

Above all, it’s a lot of fun!

Guest Conductor: Steve King D.Litt MBE

We are honoured that Steve King will be conducting this year’s camp. Steve is a music educationalist, facilitator and composer. He is the musician in residence at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh where he conducts the university orchestra and has played viola professionally with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra since 1984. He previously worked in the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and as a music teacher in the Welsh borders. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Through his work at Heriot-Watt and many other music institutional settings in Scotland, Steve has become sought after as a conductor, showing strong commitment to the community sector of music making, exploring both contemporary and mainstream repertoire. He has worked with some of the world’s most famous and inspirational musicians, playing in Scotland and throughout the world.

In 2005 Steve was awarded an MBE for services to music. In 2006 he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship by the International Rotary Foundation in recognition of his dedicated service to music in the community and in 2009 he gained an Honorary Doctorate [D.Litt] from Heriot-Watt University.

We are particularly honoured and grateful that he has forgone an opportunity to play for a week at the Edinburgh Festival in order to come to Musicamp
